What is the Bacs collection process?
The Bacs processing cycle is a three-stage process in principle and takes place over three working days.
- Day One: Entry day – This is the latest day a Service User can transmit data to Bacs (either via Bacstel-IP software, Bacs Bureau or banking platform) for a processing cycle. Payment files must be transmitted to Bacs between 07.00 and 22.30 to be included.
- Day Two: Processing day – On processing day, all valid data accepted from Stage One is processed. Files are delivered to the recipient banks, which then process each payment.
- Day Three: Collection day – All correctly addressed payments are simultaneously credited to the Service User’s accounts and debited from your Payer’s account.
